File extension part information
The file extension .PART is also used to reference partly downloaded files. When the download process is complete, the manager then combines the parts together. The .PART file extension is considered to be of little or no use individually. The file may only be opened when the download process has been completed. Such applications as the eDonkey, allow a user to share downloads with other users. On the other hand, the Go!Zilla application may be linked to Mozilla products and is used for partial downloads. Thus, Microsoft Free Download Manager, eDonkey, Emule and Go!Zilla use .PART.
Cannot open part files in Windows?
Not being able to open part files in Windows may be a result of registry errors or not having the appropriate application installed. It is strongly recommended that you scan your computer for registry errors (free). Therefore, file extension PART are created when a user is downloading elements from the internet. Once the download process is complete, the .PART file extension changes in order to reflect the proper file name suffix. This means that when a user is left with a .PART file extension, they did not successfully download the product. Since .PART file extensions are partial temporary files created by a download manager, they cannot be opened. However, the user may install software that would help in the identification of the source. These applications could also assist in the retrieval process.
